Sidney Bruce Jones

Sidney Bruce Jones, 75,  was born on November 2nd, 1944 to Gertrude Jones and Lloyd Riley. Throughout his childhood, he was raised by the legendary Josephine “Ma Jo” Matthews. After a hard-fought battle, he transitioned peacefully on January 4, 2020 surrounded by loved ones at LMC Extended Care.

In the 1960s, he met and wed Julia (Rowe) Jones and went on to have six children, Gonzlar Steffon, Sidney Bernard, Dora Jean, Stanley Andre, Felicia Machell, and Christopher O’Neal.

Bruce was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned.

After retiring in 1999 from Ducane in Blackville, SC, Bruce lived life on his own terms hustling doing things he enjoyed and was a good-humored person everyone knew and loved.

Bruce was predeceased by his parents, four sons, a brother, and two sisters.

Anyone who knew Bruce knew that he was the most loving father and spouse a family could ask for. He is survived by his loving wife, Julia, a son, Gonzlar Jones of Cayce, SC, two daughters, Dora (Fleming) Schofield of Lexington, SC and Felicia (Atwadius) Mills of Wagener, SC, 11 grandchildren: Bridgett, Channing, Laking, Darren, Teanna, Sandy, Bridgit, Breanna, Omar, Da’Shawn, and Deionna, 9 great grandchildren: Jordyn, Jermiah, Carleigh, Jamir, Aaralyn, Jaden, Kaitlyn, Braylon, and Belinda, three sisters, Shirley (Charles) Washington, Deborah Haygood, and Wanda Jones all of Columbia SC, one bother Robert Lee Jones of Columbia, SC, two sisters-in-law, Elease Langford of Leesville, SC and Helen Landy of Batesburg, SC and one brother-in-law, Howard Rowe of Monetta, SC.

Bruce will be missed by all who knew and truly loved him.

Lastly, a memory that his grandchildren will forever cherish is the statement he always made to them, “Understanding is the best thing in the world.”
