Maria Davenport Obituary

Maria Austin Davenport was born on October 20, 1968, to Eartha Mae and Johnny Lee Austin of Pelion, South Carolina. On Saturday, May 9, 2020, Maria heard the Lord say come on home my child and take your rest.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents Johnnie and Louise Middleton Austin and C. D. and Rosa Lee Phillips Mavins.

Maria graduated from Pelion High School in 1986. She attended Midlands Technical College, West Columbia, South Carolina, USC Aiken, Aiken, South Carolina, and further advanced her education by earning an associate degree from South Carolina State University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She was employed for many years in the Aiken County School System as a Head Start Teacher where she loved her job of teaching kids.

At an early age, Maria gave her life to Christ and joined Hall Hill Baptist Church in Swansea, South Carolina., later she moved her membership to Baughmanville Baptist Church in Wagener, South Carolina, where she was a faithful member. Maria always had strong faith and trust in the Lord, she was always putting others first. She was a bright light to everyone she encountered.

Maria was married to the love of her life, Arnold Edward Davenport, and to this union, two sons were born:  Demorio Sentell Davenport and Devon Davon Davenport. She loved her family unconditionally.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving parents, devoted husband, her sons, as well as two Grandchildren:  Destiny Areanna Davenport and Zayden Dav’on Davenport, Wagener, South Carolina. Her siblings: Johnny Lee ‘Mickey’ (Sharon) Austin, West Columbia, South Carolina, Tyrone (Renea Golson) Austin, Gaston, South Carolina, Angee Jones, Boston, Massachusetts, and LaTasha Williams, Lexington, South Carolina.  Her Father and Mother-In-Law: Charles (Glorie) Davenport, Wagener, South Carolina, Brother in law, Antoine Davenport and Sister in law Tammie Moore. Uncles: Ray and Donald Austin, Pelion, South Carolina; Randy Austin, Chapin, South Carolina; Melvin and Benjamin Davenport, Wagener, South Carolina, and Benny Davenport, Wagener, South Carolina. Great Uncle, George Middleton, Columbia, South Carolina. Aunts: Deloris Mavins, Neeses, South Carolina, Brenda Myers, Columbia, South Carolina, Ellen Myers, Chapin, South Carolina; Vernice Scott, Malden, Missouri; Shirley Austin, Avon Park, Florida; Legatha Burris, Aiken, South Carolina, Janice Davenport, Wagener, South Carolina, Merlina Holloway, Jamaica, New York, and Beatrice Davenport, Wagener, South Carolina. Great Aunts: Lela Middleton, Eartha Kelly, and Dorothy Middleton, Columbia, South Carolina, Janie Middleton, Pelion, South Carolina; two special cousins: Patricia Mavins Posey and Kimberly Austin-Davis, Pelion, South Carolina, a special brother, Lloyd Barnes, Dallas, Texas, and her good friend Mary Ray, Columbia, South Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

The family will be having a viewing on Friday, May 15, 2020, and a graveside service of Saturday, May 16 at 1:00 pm.
