Louis McCreary

Louis McCreary was born on February 1, 1924. He was the tenth child of eleven children born to the late John and Emma McCreary in Perry, South Carolina.

In 1942 Louis voluntarily enlisted into the United States Army.  During Louis’s enlistment, he served in a hostile combat zone during World War II.

In April of 1948, while living in Detroit Michigan, Louis met the love of his life Gladys Browning- McCreary. Louis and Gladys were married and started a family, Ozell, Shirley, Velma, Louis Jr., and Emma. His loving wife Gladys, his sons, Ozell, Louis Jr., and his daughter Velma preceded him in going home to the Lord.

Louis was an active church member under the leadership of the late Bishop William L. Bonner of Solomon’s Temple in Detroit Michigan.

Louis was a hard-working family man. Despite having very little formal education Louis provided a comfortable living for his family.  He relied on his multiple skills which included but were not limited to being a Master Butcher, a skilled construction worker, a roofer, and a master plumber. Louis lived an exciting life, in his past time he enjoyed working on cars, completing home projects, and spending time with his family and friends.

On November 17, 2020, Louis McCreary transitioned into eternal life while resting comfortably at home and in the presence of his granddaughter Jady Wilson in Elgin South Carolina.

Louis is remembered in love by his daughters Emma McCreary, Shirley Lee (Samuel) of Detroit Michigan, daughter in law Dorothy Davenport of Wagner South Carolina, his sister Lucille Nelson of Detroit Michigan, twenty-three grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
