Deaconess Lavonne Tate Anderson, oldest daughter of the late Robert Bankhead and Bettie Jean Tate was born February 21, 1960, in Baltimore, Maryland.
On the evening of June 21, 2023, God so gently whispered to Lavonne it’s time for you to come home and take your rest. One of Lavonne’s greatest attributes was caring and taking care of family members and friends.
Lavonne joined Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, Gaffney, SC at an early age. This is where she received her early religious training and confirmed her belief and trust in God. After marriage Lavonne moved her membership to the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Lexington, SC, and was a faithful member for over 40 years. She was an active member of the deaconess ministry, musical choir, liturgical dance, Sunday school, missionary and youth praise dance coordinator.
Lavonne was educated in the public schools of Blacksburg, SC. Lavonne graduated from Blacksburg High School in June, 1978. After high school Lavonne went on to further her education by enrolling in Morris College, Sumter, SC, majoring in Early Childhood Education. While at Morris College, Lavonne was a member of the Morris College Gospel Choir.
Morris College is where Lavonne was introduced to the love of her life Henry Anderson. They were married on September 13, 1980. From their union three children were born: Eric, Helen and Robert.
Lavonne was employed by Gleamns Headstart as a teacher for 32 years. While employed Lavonne received her associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College.
Lavonne had many hobbies which she took great pride in doing. Some of her hobbies were drawing, decorating, liturgical dancing and floral arrangements. Lavonne’s love of dancing lead her to enroll in dance classes and eventually became a dance instructor.
