James Lee Gunter

James Lee Gunter, better known as “Beno/Rocky” departed this life to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 22, 2023 in Orlando Regional Hospital,  Orlando, Florida. 

James was born in Columbia, SC on October 26, 1952.  He was the beloved son of the late Thomas Sims II and Myrtis Tyler Sims. 

James attended the public schools in Columbia, SC.  Later he extended his education the Job Corps, where he achieved his GED and many trades.  After he finished Job Corps, he began cooking at various restaurants.  Cooking was one of his passions. He also worked for his brother s business Simcomm Wireless as a tech 5.  After living in Columbia for many years he decided to relocate to Orlando, FLA and was employed by Dixie Uniforms and Laundry as a head supervisor.

James was united into Holy Matrimony to Glendia Gunter.

James was preceded in passing by his parents and his sister Sandra Sims.  He was the oldest grandson of the Late James Tyler and Elease Tyler.

James leaves to mourn his passing his wife Glendia Gunter of Columbia, SC;  4 sisters, Varnett (Wallace) Goodwin, and Cynthia Sims both of Columbia, SC, Juanita (Doug) Stiver of Idaho, and Linda Sims of Orlando, Fla.; 4 brothers Ernest Gunter, Thomas (Perrine) Sims III and Nathaniel Sims all of Columbia, SC and Andra Sims of Washington, DC; a loving aunt and uncle, Grace and Heyward Hancock of Aiken, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends, all of whom will miss him dearly.  James will also be missed by his pet chihuahua (Trigger).
