Gladys H. Mims, Born on March 6, 1932 at home in Leesville, SC to the late Alexander and Maude Hartley of Leesville, SC. Mrs. Mims gained her wings on Saturday, October 9, 2021.

Gladys graduated from Twin City High School located in Leesville, SC. She then started working at the dry cleaners in Leesville, SC until moving to Lexington. From there she did domestic work and worked alongside T.C. as a custodian  at St. Stephens Lutheran Church for over 44 years until the death of T.C.

Gladys became a member of New Bethel AME Church after her marriage to T.C. until her untimely death. Throughout her tenure at New Bethel, Gladys served on the Stewardess Board, Hospitality Committee, Senior Choir, Missionary Society and the Senior Citizen Organization.

Gladys was preceded in death by her late husband: Thomas (T.C.) Mims; son, Robert “Zack” Hartley, baby sister, Margaret Hartley and infant great-grandson, Calvin Dean. Gladys is survived by her daughters, Cathy Dean and Patricia Mims, of Lexington, SC. Grandson Jason (Adrian) Dean, great grandchildren, Jabez and Alliyah-Nicole Dean of Colorado Springs, CO. One niece, Saundra Hartley, Lexington, SC. Cousins; Jennie Simpkins, The extended Jones Family, The Leaphart Family, Debra Walker-Wise, Dwight Mims, Wayne Mims and The Johnson Family.

Even though the Pandemic slowed everything down and Gladys was unable to attend church on a regular basis, she had her circle of telephone callers of whom she called daily; Ms. Nathalee Jones, Ms. Minnie Davis, Ms. Thelma Strother, Linda Davis, Harold Wise, Elizabeth (Polly) Boykins, Diane Wise, Rodney Gates, Will Leaphart, Jerome Johnson, David Green, Vernon Black, Helen Jones and Joyce Jones. The conversation was not long; long enough to say “Hello, how you doing and love you a lot!!” and her favorite saying was “I’m hopping but I’m not stopping!”

Take it out of LOVE if your name was omitted.
