Mother Ethel Clay Benjamin Davenport a native of Pelion, SC was born on November 13, 1932 to the late Robert Gray and the late Maggie Inabinet Gray. She departed this life on September 12, 2021 at the Lexington Medical Center.
Ethel was education at the Darian Colored School, Pelion, SC, and was employed at Dr. Hutto Doctor Office, Pelion, SC; Glass Master Beat Company and Rikards Nursing Home, Lexington, SC.
Mother Davenport was a faithful and dedicated member of Darian Baptist Church, Pelion, SC for over fifty plus years where she served in many compacities: Senior Choir, President of the Pulpit Ministry, Deaconess Ministry, and Church Mother.
Mother Davenport was proceeded into death by her mother and father; her husband’s Jerry Benjamin and Deacon Roddy Davenport Jr.; a daughter Geraldine B. Mayes; two sons Claude Benjamin and Levi Benjamin; three sisters, Julia Mae Inabinet, Mary Bruce, Martha Thomas; four brothers, David Gray, Alexandrea Gray, Sam Gray, CL Jeffrey; a son-in-law Charles Golson Jr.; a brother-in-law Joe Thomas, and a great grandchild Kanetha Lepart
Ethel leaves to cherish her the many memories of her life: Two children, Rev. Alwillye Golson, and Deacon Nathaniel (Lynn) Davenport; one granddaughter she raised as her own child Clarissa Jackson; a forester son Sylvester Earles, all of Pelion, SC; a forester daughter Rita Day, Aiken, SC; One brother Robert Gray, Columbia, SC; a brother-in-law Elder E. J Bruce, Salisbury, NC; two sister-in laws Helen T. Jackson and Minerva Gray, Wagner, SC; two daughters-in-law Floree Benjamin, Charlotte, NC and Evelyn Adams, Batesburg, SC; a special cousin raised as a sister Magaline Black, Washington, DC; and a host of grands, great grands, great great grands, nieces, nephews, cousins and other family who loved her dearly.
