Dwight H. Guyton Sr. (Pops) was born on August 24, 1959 to the late Reverend Wilson Guyton and Bernice Guyton. He departed this life on April 4, 2022.
Dwight was the third of six children. He was born in Miami and spent his early years in South Carolina before moving to Baltimore as an adolescent.
Dwight left his formal education at Baltimore City Public Schools and went to Job Corps to pursue his trade of cement finisher. He joined the US Army Reserves at the age of 17. After he was honorably discharged, he spent the next 40 years in the trade he loved.
Family came first to Dwight. His grandchildren were his heart. One of his favorite things was to take them to the park and race. They remember him doing fun things like having them walk on a fence to learn to balance and riding their bikes with them. Despite his height (he told everyone he was still growing), he was undefeated against his grandchildren in basketball. He would taunt them after their losses chanting ‘a woo woo woo woo’.
Dwight loved to visit churches and found a ‘home’ at each one. Prior to his death, he was a member of New Pilgrim Baptist Church.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his three children, Dwight (Annie), Tia, and Tiana. Ten grandchildren, Mariah, Mon’yae, Essance, Dwight III, Anaya, James, Ac’qealiest, Kamaya, Michael, and Kameren. Four great-grandchildren, Damija, Mil’Angel, Ja’Don, and Kallani. His siblings, Clayton (Dee), Melissa (Kenneth), Raynard, Tracy, and Emmett (Tyretha. One Special friend, Karen, and a host of other relatives and friends.
