Betty Joann (McCreary) Gomillion

 Betty Joann McCreary- Gomillion, daughter of the late Eroy McCreary and Boyzetta McCreary was born on September 23, 1944 in Salley, South Carolina.

Betty has four siblings Rosmond McCreary, Bonnie McCreary, the late Delores Pontoo and the late Daisy Mae Blalock. 

When Betty was fourteen years old they moved from South Carolina to Hempstead, New York where she graduated from Hempstead High School in Hempstead, New York. At twenty years old she married Louis DeAngelo Gomillion and of this union she birthed three daughters, Cynthia Renee Gomillion-Jones, Boyzetta Elaine Gomillion and Darlicia Ann Gomillion-Nichols. She raised her girls in North Babylon, New York.

For over twenty years Betty worked for the Wyandanch Public School District. Her wishes were always to move back home and after retirement.   She returned to South Carolina and eventually rested in Georgia.

If you knew Betty you would know that family was everything to her. She loved and help raise her niece and several of her nephews. She was that mom who cooked a full course meal every day, desert included.  She also was a character. If she liked you, you knew it and if she did not you knew that as well. She came with a story. Her childhood stories were the best and they also came with laughter. Love, Family unity and values was what her life was built around. She was the glue that held each branch to the trunk. She was the constant communicator. The one who kept in contact with everyone.  

Betty leaves a legacy of grandchildren and great grands. Her grandchildren are as follows: Ahkir Rhamel Hunter, Taisha Renee Gomillion, Alisha Quasia McNeal, Shantel Monea Nichols, Marvin James, McNeal and Kalen Ayanna Nichols. Her great grands are De’Andre Rhamel Gomillion, Kay Ambriel Neal, SahNiyah Amaree Hunter, Cameron Raysean Gomillion,
Ayden Jaceon, McNeal, Jaxon Alexander Manigault-Nichols, Amir Justice McNeal and Amour Jianni McNeal along with a host of nieces, nephews and beloved family members.
