Deacon Alvin Theordore Caughman, 74 departed this earthly life on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Agape Hospice House in Lexington, South Carolina. Alvin was the son of Alline Caughman-Cook and the late F.D. Cook. He was raised by his grandparents the late Pinkney and Bleaker Davis-Caughman. He was born on January 30, 1946 in Lexington County, South Carolina.
Deacon Alvin T. Caughman attended and graduated from Lexington Rosenwald High School. He graduated with the class of 1964. He also attended Midlands Technical College.
Deacon Alvin T. Caughman joined the Mt. Olive C.M.E. Church at an early age, where he served on the Steward Board, choir and performed duties as the church Treasurer. Alvin continued to have a great love for Mt. Olive throughout his entire life. Alvin later joined St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church where he served faithfully until his health began to decline. He served as President of the Gospel Choir, Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, Secretary of Deacon Ministry and Church Treasurer.
Alvin loved people and his community. He worked Lexington County Election Commission for 45 years, served on the Lexington District One Vocational Education Center Advisory Committee, Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Advisory Committee during the leadership of former Sheriff James “Jimmy” Metts, and a member of Lexington Lodge #251. Alvin worked as a Teller for Lexington State Bank for 16 1/2 years and retired from Mid-Carolina Electric Cooperative in 2009.
Those left to cherish his memories: his best friend and wife Annie Martha Watson-Caughman of 50 years; his loving mother Alline Caughman-Cook; one daughter Gwendolyn (Abram) Watson-Isreal of Lexington; three sons: Douglas Earl (Judy) Watson of Gilbert, Alvin Durrell (LaGuadia) Caughman of Lexington, and Kenneth LaNard (Sabine) Caughman of Gilbert; four sisters - Sarah (Eddie) Smith, West Columbia, Denise Jackson, Marilyn Thompson of Lexington, and Seretha Caughman (reared in the home as a sister) of Lexington; three brothers - Deon Cook, Bernard (Pam) Cook of Lexington, Leroy (Martha) Caughman (reared in the home as a brother) of Lexington; two uncles: Sidney (Vivian) Caughman, Sr. of West Columbia; Robert Cook of Lexington; thirteen grandchildren: Jerrin Watson, Shatera Watson, Shanae Watson all of Gilbert; Debreshia Watson of Spartanburg; Kentrell Isreal, Douglas Isreal, Justin Caughman, Kristen Caughman of Lexington; Darius Caughman of Ridgeway, Katrina Suklis of Oxford, Massachusetts; Christopher Caughman, Zoey Dingle of Gilbert; David Caughman of Swindon, England; five great grandchildren, five brother-in-laws, six sister-in-laws; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends.
