Obituary – William “Scoop” Johnson

William Johnson, a devoted father, grandfather, and brother, departed this life on August 15, 2026, following a brief illness. He was born in Aiken County on August 8, 1958, to the late Ben and Margaret Holmes.

Affectionately known as “Scoop,” William enjoyed talking, working with his hands, and spending time outdoors. When he wasn’t outside, he could often be found glued to the television watching his favorite Western movies. Once you met Scoop, you could not forget him. He had a heart of gold, a warm spirit, and never met a stranger.

For many years, Scoop worked at Wagener Manufacturing. He later worked for Southeastern Clay Co. and was also employed at River Edge Farm South in Aiken, South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Mr. Johnny Lee Johnson and Mr. Leonard Johnson; and two sisters, Ms. Mildred King and Ms. Sylvia Friday.

William leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving and devoted daughter, LoToya James of Orangeburg, South Carolina; four grandchildren, JaShaun Green, Aiden Simmons, Nysir Almonds, and Dreya Pittman, all of Orangeburg, South Carolina; one brother, Henry (Abbie) Holmes of Salley, South Carolina; three sisters, Shanne B. Holmes and Suzanne Holmes, both of Salley, South Carolina, and Mary (Danny) Thomas of Savannah, Georgia; one aunt, Nancy of Flushing, New York; a special niece, Tarsha Holmes; a special nephew, Bernard Friday; and a host of other relatives and friends.

William’s presence, laughter, kindness, and unforgettable spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
