It is with a heavy heart and profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Virgil Bynem, who left us on March 26, 2026, in Savannah, Georgia. Born on January 2, 1969, in Aiken, South Carolina, Virgil’s life was marked by unwavering dedication to education, faith, and community service.

Virgil was a beloved teacher at Daniels Christian School, where he shaped minds and touched lives with patience and kindness. His passion for guiding others extended into his spiritual leadership as Pastor at Harvest of Loves Outreach Ministries, a position he held with devotion since 2011. Beyond these roles, Virgil’s professional journey included meaningful work with Aiken Counts and Wageners Trucking, reflecting his strong work ethic and diverse talents.

A man of great intellect and faith, Virgil pursued rigorous academic achievement, graduating from Wagener-Salley High School, then earning not one but two doctorates — one in counseling and another in theology. These accomplishments enriched his ability to counsel and inspire those around him, embodying a rare blend of scholarly and spiritual insight.

Virgil’s legacy is held dearly by his loving family and the many lives he touched. He is survived by his devoted spouse, LaTonya Bynem, and their children: daughter Charity (Staphon) Meadors and son Virgil (Destinee) Bynem Jr., along with their cherished granddaughter, Leyani Bynem. He was a pillar to his brothers Leonard L. (Keena) Bynem Jr., Darryl (Coretta) Bynem Sr., and Dylon (Simeka) Bynem, and a loving brother to Shakesha Bynem. The family circle extends to his mother-in-law Mary Donovan, sisters-in-law Jasmine Wingard, Tracee Evans Jones, and Jamie Bryce, brother-in-law Edgar Evans Jr., and goddaughter Jasmine Wingard, along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, god sisters, and friends who all carry his memory forward.

Virgil was preceded in death by his cherished parents Leonard and Ella Mae Bynem and his brother Tremaine Bynem. Their spirits live on in the stories shared and the love that continues to bloom in the hearts of those who knew him.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Virgil’s life will take place on March 30, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Friendship Baptist Church, located at 194 Green Acres Road in Salley, South Carolina. This gathering will provide a space for family, friends, and community members to come together, reminisce, and find solace in shared remembrance.

Virgil Bynem’s journey may have ended, but his impact will resonate for generations to come. His unwavering commitment to faith, education, and family is a testament to a life well-lived—a beacon of hope, compassion, and strength for all who had the honor of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
