God saw the road was getting long, so on Saturday night January 25, 2014, God gently closed Ms. Velma R. Corley's weary eyes, where she departed this life at Lexington Medical Center, Lexington, South Carolina.
Ms Velma Corley was born in Lexington, South Carolina to the late John Henry Davis and the late Mary L Corley on September 17, 1942. She joined Spring Hill AME Church at an early age.
She is a graduate of Lexington Rosenwald School. She was employed by Brown Bovarian for ten years and Lexington One School System exceeding 25 years, where she recently retired. Velma was a person full of fun and laughter. She was very family oriented and a faithful caregiver to her mother until her mother's death.
Velma Corley leaves those who shared the joys of life with her and now cherish her loving memories; one God sister, Janice (Larry) Summers of Lexington; three God nephews, David Holman, Jamie Summers, and Michael Summers all of Lexington; one aunt, Lessie Leaphart of Lexington; one very special cousin, Carrie Holman of Lexington; six cousins, Willie (Milldred) Wise; Cleaster Corley; Doretha (Grant) Crew; Annie (Robert) Simmons; Elease Jones; Mary Black all of Lexington; and one special great nephew, Tyeash Davis of New Jersey.
Also five special second cousins, Tekoa Holman; Phyllis (Joe) Watson; Portia Wise; Marcy (Joe) Strother all of Lexington and Shola Gates of North Carolina. A special friend, Rose Parris of Leesville, and other loving cousins, numerous nieces, cephews, and a host of other relative and friends.
Service Information
The Corley family will be accepting friends and wellwishers at the J.H. Robinson Funeral Home, 701 Hendrix St., Lexington SC on Friday January 31, 2014 from 3 to 7 pm.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 2:00pm at Spring Hill AME Church, 228 Windy Hill Ct., Gilbert SC.
