Shirley V. Harris Smith, daughter of the late Solomon J. Harris and Ellen Geiger Harris of Lexington,S.C., departed this life on Saturday, June 4,2016 at Lexington Medical Center,West Columbia,S.C. She began her teaching career at Chester Elementary School in Chester South Carolina and later taught at Hollwood Elementary School in Saluda,South Carolina where she retired after 42 years of teaching. After her retirement, she worked with Lexington County School district 1 , and she tutored students in her home for many years. Shirely leaves to mourn her passing : one daughter , Kimberly Smith; two sons,Dujuan Smith and Zalontate (Lia) Smith, (and their father Dennis Smith); ten grandcildren, one great- grand; four brothers, James (Hermayonne), her twin Sherrill (Shirley) Harris; Shelton (Sandra) Harris; Willie Reggie Harris ; several devoted cousins reared in the home as brothers and sister; one brother- in- law , Harper ; one uncle ,Andrew (Jackie) Williams; and many other relatives ,friends and Godchildren.

Service Information

Viewing will take place on Friday ,June 10,2016 from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm at J.H. Robinson Funeral Home; 701 Hendrix Street, Lexington,S.C. 29072. Funeral Service will be held Saturday,June 11,2016 ,1:00 pm at New Bethel AME Church. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
