Rubin Thurmond, departed this earthly life on Monday, November 13, 2017 at his home in Columbia, South Carolina. Born in Aiken, South Carolina on November 29, 1947, he was the son of the late Wesley and Felicia Thurmond. Mr. Thurmond, also affectionately known as "Lukie" was educated in the public schools of Wagener, South Carolina. He later moved to Detroit Michigan where he was employed by Ford Motor Company for over 15 years as a Lead Technician. Mr. Thurmond was a hard worker, a wise man that loved his family and loved to cook. After moving back to South Carolina from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he spent most of his adult life, Mr. Thurmond moved into Christopher Towers Residential Facility in Columbia, South Carolina where he lived for the past 8 years. He enjoyed gardening, listening to music and spending time with a special friend, Mr. James Moten. Mr. Thurmond leaves to cherish his wife, Lucille Thurmond of Gaston, SC; four children, Rubin (Regina) Thurmond, Tricia Ann (Reggie) McMillan, Richard (LaToi) Schofield, all of Columbia, SC and Frank (Latosha) Thurmond of Sumter, SC; one brother; Lester Thurmond of Philadelphia, PA; four sisters-in-law, Gracie Scott & Christine Thurmond of Wagener, SC, Isabelle Scott of Philadelphia, PA and Retha Bell Thurmond of North, SC. Four Grandchildren, Qwenton Sr., Alexis, Journey & Keno and two Great-Grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews other relatives, friends and residents of Christopher Towers Residential Facility.

Service Information

Visitation and viewing for Rubin Thurmond will be held on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 2 to 7 PM at the J.H. Robinson Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Rubin Thurmond will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the J.H. Robinson Funeral Home Chapel. We are located at 190 Railroad ave. W., Wagener, SC 29164. Intermit for Mr Thurmond will be held immediately after the funeral services at the Danley Cemetery.
