Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Robert Johnson Bey, affectionately known as "Bey" who left his earthly form on January 14, 2025. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 5, 1941, Bey was the eldest of ten children.  He was a beacon of strength and resilience earning his high school diploma from the NYC educational system and embarking on a diverse career that included roles as a Licensed Exterminator, Landscaping Contractor, Night Supervisor at Tri-City Plastics, and Child Development Center Transportation Supervisor in retirement.

In 1979, Bey relocated to South Carolina, first to Wagener and then to Edgefield, where he spent his remaining years.  A proud Moorish American, Bey was dedicated member and Elder of the Moorish Science Temple of America for over 50 years.  In the communities of Aiken and Edgefiled counties, he was lovingly known as the "God Father", a testament to the profound impact he had on those around him.

Bey's legacy is carried on by his beloved family, including his second wife, Joann "Boopy" Johnson: his children, Robert Allen Johnson II, Zivah Johnson, Joseph T. Turner, Dr. TeNeane Bradford, Arcenia Stevens, and Issac Johnson: his grandchildren, Melissa Napper, Knycoe Johnson, Jade Ruiz, Zaria Stevens, Jackson Turner, and Christian Stevens: and his great-grandchildren, Londyn Johnson, Giovanni Coleman, Pierre Ruiz, and Jayce Ruiz.  He is also survived by his siblings, Diane Johnson, Lawrence Johnson, Karen Johnson, and SHaron Fulgham: his sons-in-law, Kevin Stevens and Timothy Bradford; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loved ones.

Bey was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lillian Arcenia Digs and Uncle Digs; his parent, Luther and Mary Johnson, his uncle, Lucious Johnson; his siblings, Donald Johnson, Beveryly Johnson, Barbara-Jean Johnson, Luther Johnson, and Gerald "Jerry" Johnson: his first wife, Myra Melton and his companion Lynn "Rootie" McCain.
