Obituary

Mother Myrtis Wooden Staley was born to John Wooden and Bessie Washington, on November 4, 1918 in Aiken County. She was the wife to the late Deacon Lester Staley to whom she was married to for forty-five years. From their union 14 children were born, from which 62 grandchildren, 166 great grandchildren, 104 great-great grandchildren for a total of 346 grandchildren. She entered into rest Sunday morning February 8, 2015 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers. She was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church for many years. After moving to Aiken she worshiped at Bibleway Aiken and Wagener but would occasionally come back to Friendship for a visit. She never forgot her church as she often said, "Friendship is my church you know." She taught her children not to compromise the word of God, not only by words, but also by example. At an early age, she attended the old "Gum Ridge School" and many years later while in her seventies, she returned to school and received her GED. Honored by the Clemson University at Midland Valley High School. Than a trip to Philadelphia was given to her by her children, She leaves to cherish her memories, six sons; Lester (Gloria) Staley, Goose Creek, SC; James (Bessie Mae) Staley, Salley, SC; Charles (Johnnie Mae) Staley, Wagener, SC; George (Carrie) Staley, Lexington, SC; Calvin (Fonda) Staley, Aiken, SC; Leroy (Linda) Staley, Aiken, SC. Two daughters; Maggie Jackson-Tucker, Aiken, SC; Catherine (Field) Kennell, Aiken, SC. Four sisters; Dorothy Ware, Detroit, MI; Doris Griffin, Ninety Six, SC; Gloria (John) Williams, Aiken,SC; Barbara Gantt, Columbia, SC. One brother in-law, John (Annie Mae) Staley, New York; Four sister in-laws Ida Mae Staley, Albany, NY, Gwendolyn Staley, Wagener, SC, Alwillie Wooden, Salley, SC; Doris Wooden, Aiken, SC. And a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Service Information

Visitation for Mrs. Myrtis W. Staley will be held on Thursday February 12, 2015 at the J. H. Robinson Funeral Home, 190 Railroad Avenue West Wagener, SC 29164 during the hours of 2 PM to 7 PM. Funeral service for Mrs. Staley will be held on Friday February 13, 2015 at the Town Creek Baptist Church, 250 Town Creek Road Aiken, SC 29803 starting at 1:00 PM. Committal service will be held at the Friendship Baptist Church cemetery, 194 Green Acres Road Salley, SC 29137
