Reared by Mabel and Mexico Sugick, Minnie had two loving children, Crosson Rowe, Jr. (Pete) and Regina R. Gilchrist along with three beautiful grands, Kim Bookman, Stacey R. Gilchrist, and Keisha (Chris) Nunn. Minnie also had a loving niece-sister, Syadell Harper. God also blessed her with eight nieces, and six nephews. She also counted all the friends of her children as her own. Her home and heart were always opened to them whenever there was a knock on the door. They also became her children. She loved this family and always told them.
Loving her family came out of her love for God. Minnie joined New Hope, now Greater New Hope Baptist Church, in the early 1940's and remained an active member until her admittance to the Stoddard Baptist Nursing Home. Her church family and her social family were one. She was a Charter Member of the Glee Singers and they spent many Saturdays together in the kitchen preparing for Sunday dinners. They also spent their Mondays at rehearsals, their first Sundays on the choir stand and their remaining days on the phone or in each other's homes. They were her family and she loved this family.
After her work schedule allowed, Minnie became even more active in the church. She had always been a Sunday School member. And if she didn't make it, she made very, very sure that we did. No matter how late you stayed out on Saturday night, you were getting out of her house and going to Sunday School. Even those times when she had worked the night shift, you would look up and see her there. She later joined Senior Usher Board #2, and served faithfully until her knees didn't allow her to stand as needed. Upon retirement, she started attending Bible Study on Wednesday and also joined the Flower Club. She enjoyed taking flowers to those who were shut in and was blessed by the Flower Club as they left beautiful flowers in her room. Minnie loved this family.
Momma, when God made you, He did so with a purpose and a plan. He saw all your days before you lived one of them and placed over you the covering of His protective love. He allowed nothing to come into your life that had not been screened through that love. God's plan had to have included your love for your family. We are so grateful for the 93 years God kept you with this earthly family until He had a place for you with your eternal family.
