Martha Elizabeth Workmon Hassell was born on July 11, 1913 in Lexington, SC. to Hester "Het" Rawl and Freddie Workmon. 

At a young age, Martha relocated to New York City where she worked in several manufactories. 

Maerha married Alexander Hassell, and started her family.  During her later years of life, Martha studied and became a licensed barber. She then moved to Lexington, SC while caring for her grandchildren and her father till his death. 

Martha was preceded in passing by her parents, and her son William Brian Crosby, Sr.

Martha is survived by her children: Robin (Elder Kenneth) Brooks and Eva Shawn (Elvin) Burrison; Daughter in Law Dora Crosby; Siblings, Charles W. (Mae) Rawl, Carmella Powell and Rev. Dr. Elaine Johnson (John) Eskew; Grandchildren, Shamele Jones, William B. Crosby, Jr. and Jarius Brooks; Great grand children Shermia, Sierra, Serena and Serinity and a host of nieces, nephews other family members and friends.
