At an early age, she joined the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Salley, South Carolina and she was a faithful member until her health began to decline. She found great joy and respect in her church responsibilities and enjoyed working in the position as a member of the Women Home Mission Ministry and later became the president. She planned many visits to the nursing home for church services, and served on the Senior Choir for many years singing and praising God through songs. She was also a member of the Orion Chapter #135 of the Eastern Stars where she served as Worth Matron from 2006 to 2009.
Sister Marie received her education at Aiken County Public School, and graduated from A. L. Corbett High School in Wagener, South Carolina. She continued her education at Area Trade School in 1959 (Denmark Tech) and received her degree in Cosmetology. She was the owner of the Marie's Beauty Salon of Wagener, SC, position that she worked in for many years and loved every moment of it. She also worked at SmithKline Beecham in Aiken, SC and retired after 15 years of service.
She was united in Holy Matrimony to Trustee James George Adams in 1961 who preceded her in death in December 1984.
Marie was preceded in death by five siblings: three brothers, John A. Thompson, Sonny Thompson and Horace Thompson and two sisters, Janet Lewis and Murlean Thompson. Now, the family chain has been broken once again.
