Obituary

Katie Mae Landy Lashley was born October 26, 1934. She was the eldest child of the late Lawrence Clifton Landy and Maggie W. Staley in Wagener, SC. She was educated in the Wagener public school system where she completed the 8th grade. Upon relocation to Boston, MA, she continued her education at a vocational school and earned a certificate as a seamstress. In 1989, earned her high school diploma from Wagener High School. She married George Henry Lashley from Barbados, British West Indies in 1956. She was a mother to five children. After living in Boston for several years, she returned to South Carolina with her family where she reaffirmed her membership with Friendship Baptist Church. She served as a faithful member until her death. She worked tirelessly in several capacities. She started singing on the Penny Club, and progressed to the Junior Choir. She also faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the Usher Board. She was very active in her Christian Faith. Every morning she participated in devotion with three other Sisters in Christ. Her Christian Faith was her bed rock. Faith , family and community were the most important factors in her life. She was active in her community: secretary for Union Progress Society, Lead Cook for Head Start Program, and Managed the Feed A Kid Program for the Skillet community. During the summer she worked at Camp Long. She was a bus driver for the head start program. She wrote a column for the North Trade Journal called "News from the Skillet". She was preceded in death by one daughter - Colette Willis Lashley, siblings - Deacon Arthur Paul, Deacon Lawrence C. Landy, Deacon Lawrine Landy, Betty J. Holt, and Sallie Anne Stroman. Survivors: She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories - Four boys - Roger Henry, Methuen, MA; Atheil Carmichael (Vicki), Monroe, NC; Wendell Alan (Faith), Augusta, GA; Larry Carl, Orangeburg, SC, three sisters Mildred Chandler, Salley, SC; Luerine Green, Aiken SC; Mary Frances Landy Brown, Augusta, GA, one brother James Landy, Aiken, SC, three sister-in-laws Maybelle J. Landy, Dorothy R. Landy, and Ida Mae C. Landy. One brother-in-law Oscar D. Stroman, Sr. Three aunts Ida Mae Staley (Albany, New York), Gwendolyn Staley (Wagener, SC), and Annie Mae Staley (Jamaica, New York). One uncle John B. Staley (Jamaica, New York). 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren a multitude of loving nieces and nephews.

Service Information

The family will be accepting friends and well wishers at the J.H. Robinson Funeral Home, 190 Railroad Ave,. Wagener SC on Friday July 28, 2015 from 3 to 8 pm. There will be a memorial service for Mrs Katie Lashley held on Saturday July 29, 2017 at Friendship Baptist Church Salley SC at 1200 noon.
