Deacon Joseph C. Younginer was born on January 21, 1945, in Lexington, South Carolina, to the late Conrad and Ella Rose Younginer. He peacefully transitioned on January 4, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Joseph was the second of nine children born in a loving and close nit family. He attended Lexington Rosenwald School and briefly attended Denmark Technical School before working on infrastructure projects on the highways of South Carolina.
Deacon Younginer joined Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at an early age and working diligently as a Trustee and Deacon. He was also a Brotherhood Member. In 2017, he became at Deacon Emeritus of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He also served in many community organizations including the Friendship Baptist Education Association at treasurer for over 20 years.
Joseph married his high school sweetheart, Bertha Cummings in November of 1965. To this union, 3 children were born. In his twenties, he built his lifelong home to raise his family.
Deacon Younginer worked over 30 years at Carolina Steel and Wire. He also supported his family by working other part time jobs. He worked alongside his brother Steve in the commercial cleaning business and he also worked independently in lawn care. Deacon Younginer retired after more than 5 years from the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Joseph Conrad and Ella Rose Younginer, his infant twin brothers, and brothers Harry S.Younginer and Don Younginer.
Deacon Joseph C. Younginer leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. He is survived by: his wife of 59 years, Bertha Cummings Younginer; children; Ricky Younginer, Trenton Younginer, Donna Chell (Tyrone) Mack; six grandchildren, Christopher Leaphart, Jasmine Younginer, Tyona Mack, Mia Mack, Tyrone (TJ) Mack, II and Nadia Younginer; two brothers, Jacob (Josephine) Younginer and Larry (Vivian) Younginer; two sisters, Amanda (Vincent) Taylor, Yvonne (Craig) Byrd; two sister-in-law, Nellie Foster and Tiny Younginer; one brother-in-law, Joseph Cummings along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Deacon Joseph C. Younginer' s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
