John Timothy “JT” Cannon was born on February 24, 1954, in Lexington County, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Timothy Cannon and the late Kurlina Staley Gardner. He transitioned to his heavenly home on Friday, February 6, 2026.
“JT” as he was affectionately known for was a loving and generous father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who would give any person his shirt off his back if they asked. He was loved by many and a respected member of the Sandhill Community, the town of Batesburg-Leesville, and surrounding areas. He was a devoted family man who wore a huge smile and had a caring heart.
At an early age, “JT” was baptized at Tabernacle Baptist Church, but later moved his membership to Hall Chapel Baptist Church. He attended the Twin City schools in Batesburg, South Carolina. He worked for several years at the Graniteville Mill in Graniteville, SC until he became an independent licensed contractor where he specialized in brick masonry and carpentry. He was a diehard Dallas Cowboy fan.
He was preceded in passing by his parents, daughters Tara Adams and LaTasha Harris, sisters Betty Sugick and Nettie Cannon-Hill, and brothers Cornell, Robert Lee, Michael, Mitchell Cannon, and Buster Muller.
“JT” leaves to cherish the memories of his life are two daughters, Tijuana Cannon (Jeffery Battle) his caretakers of Warrenville, SC and Myra Adams of Batesburg-Leesville, SC; four sons Jatorin (Dietrich), Ferlandus Adams of Batesburg-Leesville, SC, Travis Harris of Columbia, SC, and Travis Swedenburg of Wagener; two brothers Reverend Jeffrey Cannon of Leesville,SC and Jamie Gary of Aiken, SC; sister Shelia Leaphart (Joseph) of Batesburg, SC; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.
Celebration of Life
Starts at 1:00 pm (Eastern time)
The family will be receiving family and friends after the services at 4004 Fairview Road, Batesburg, SC 29070
