Deacon James L. Butler, 81 of Bridgeport entered into eternal rest Friday, February 19, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Wagener, SC to the late Earl and Harriet Saunders Butler, Deacon Butler has resided in Bridgeport for the past fifty-six years. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged. He was employed at General Electric in the wire and cable dept. for more than twenty years. His spiritual needs were met as disciple of the Friendship Baptist Church, Stratford where he served as Deacon, in the men's chorus and formerly as a disciple and Deacon at Shiloh Baptist Church. In addition to his parents his wife, Burnice Walker Butler predeceased him. He leaves to cherish his memory a son, James R. Butler; two daughters, Sandra J. and Stephanie U. Butler all of Bridgeport; two brothers, Elder Bobby Butler of NY and Lewis Butler of SC; three sisters, Lou Belle Staley, Mary Livingston and Earlian Cannon all of SC; four grandchildren Michele B., Ulisa B., James R., Jr. and Janea B. Butler; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
Service Information
Mr. Butler will be in the Church for viewing one hour prior to the service. Services will be held at Hall Hill Baptist Church on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 12:00pm.
Interment will take place Saturday, February 27, 2016 in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Swansea, SC.
