Obituary

Henrietta Martin Davis, born June 6, 1929 to William Martin and Essie Ferguson Martin. When she was six, her father married Georgia Phillips Martin, together they reared her to adulthood. On July 5, 2017, God said I have work yet for you to do. At an early age, Henrietta joined Saron Baptist Church where she was a member of the Usher Board, a job she truly loved because she loved serving. She was also a member of the Senior Choir and a past President of the Deaconess Ministry appointed by then Pastor, Rev. Michael McClain. Henrietta was an Associate member of Jerusalem Branch Baptist Church where she was a member of the Usher Board, Senior Choir, Echo's Deaconess Board. She was also a past President of Women Home Mission. Henrietta was also a past Matron of progressive Chapter #69 OES (FAAYAM). She was married to the late Samuel L. Davis on February 26, 1949. He preceded her in death on June 4, 2016. They loved to travel. It was not unusual for them to leave home early in the morning and not return until late evening. The children would have asked, where have you been all this time? Their answer: Well, we went to Aiken, Batesburg to get some grocery, then we went to Lexington to eat at that fish place. Now they can once again, travel around the streets of heaven. Henrietta was a homemaker, Home Health Aide, and an entrepreneur. During the years, she sold Avon, Best line products, and may others because she wanted to aid her husband. Because times were hard and she wanted to ease his burden. Then she started the work that she loved so much. She became owner-operator of Henrietta Beauty Salon. That was her passion, that was her love. Her life as a servant allowed her to touch many lives with her love and wisdom. She was preceded in death by two sons, Anthony and a stillborn. 4 sisters, Willie M. Taylor, Beatrice Pontoon, Lillie M Barnes, and Caretha Philips. Those she left to cherish her memory; Daughters Mary D Faust, Brendalyn (Lewis) Kitchings, Samuretta (Emanuel) Muldrow. 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren. 4 sisters'-in-law, Annie Ruth Davis, Byrdia Sligh, Rene Davis, Margaret Davis. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Because of her nurturing spirit, she had three special children in Christ; Alphonso Thompson, Perrie Kitchings, and Melvin C. Davis, Sr. These are 3 that needed to be mentioned, but there were hundreds more. A family would like to thank the staff at Lexington Medical Center, Opus Post-Acute Rehab, Amedisys Hospice Care, and Diane Davis for taking special care of our mother during her illness.
