Sis. Gwendolyn Green Staley passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at Aiken Regional Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Deacon Chester and Victoria Moore Green. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior of her life and joined the Rosa Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Rev. Matthew "Mack" Staley and later joined the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where she sang on the Gospel and Senior Choir, and also the Mount Hebron Baptist Church Senior Choir. Her passion was baking cookies and canning. To this union seven children were born. Maxine (Deacon David) Wright of Bath,SC, Alvin (Frances) Staley of Leesville,SC, Bishop Micheal (Evangelist Regena) Staley of Aiken,SC, Paul (Terri) Staley of Chesapeake,VA, Elaina Staley of the home, Terrell (Ann) Staley of West Columbia,SC Dowana Woodson of Lexington,SC, thirteen grandchlidren and seven great-grandchildren. Siblings includes Rev. J.C. Green of Aiken,SC, Evelyn Green of Aiken,SC, Bessie Mae (James) Staley of Salley,SC, Loretta Johnson of Wagener,SC, Lowwie Mae Hayes of Wagener,SC Lorvell (Doxier) Wise of Wagener,SC. Three preceded her in death, Clara Bell Lewis, Qneal Green and Corine Wooden; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
Visitation for Mrs. Gwendolyn Staley will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017 at the J.H. Robinson Funeral Home, 190 Railroad Ave. W, Wagener, SC 29164. Final viewing will be at Friendship Baptist Church, 194 Green Acres Rd., Salley, SC between the hours of 1:30 and 2:30pm. Funeral services will be held at Friendship Baptist Church on Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 2:30pm. Committal will be in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery immediately following the funeral services.
