Elder Abraham Pontoo, Jr., son of the late Abraham Pontoo, Sr. and Lela Mae Tyler Pontoo-Walker, was born in Aiken County on July 20, 1953. He answered the makers call on Thursday, February 1, 2018 at his residents in Aiken, SC. At an early age, he joined Smyrna Missionary Baptist Church. Later he joined Greater Smyrna (Harvest of Love) and then Antioch Bible Way Church. In October 1993 he was ordained as a minister and in October 2017 he was installed as Pastor of Antioch Bible Way Church of Wagener, SC. He attended the Aiken County Public Schools. Then he attended Talladega College (Alabama) and Friendship Jr. College (Rock Hill, SC) where he met and married Mattie Gallman Pontoo. This union was blessed with three children - two sons and one daughter. Abraham supported his family through the help of God, hard work, prayers, dedication and strong wisdom. He was employed with several facilities in Aiken County. After twenty-six years of service , he retired from ASCO Valve Inc. Abraham was a christian friend and loved by many. He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted and loving wife of 44 years, Mattie G. Pontoo, two sons - Aubrey T. (Tara) Pontoo of Tallassee, AL, Paris D. Pontoo of Aiken, SC; one daughter - Ntozake S. Johnson of Aiken, SC; Mother-in-law Carrie Mae Gray; Step-father Lou Allen Walker; one sisiter - Virginia Pontoo of Atlanta, GA; three brothers - Evan Pontoo of Aiken, SC, Llewellyn (Mary) Pontoo of Aiken, SC and Lonell Pontoo of Ocala, FL.; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends; and a host of godchildren.

Service Information

VISITATION: The family of the late Elder Abraham Pontoo, Jr. will be receiving friends and well wishers on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 3-7 PM at the J. H. Robinson Funeral Home, 190 Railroad Avenue West Wagener, SC. FUNERAL: The celebration of life for Elder Abraham Pontoo Jr., will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the Antioch Bible Way Church, 614 Seivern Road Wagener, SC 29164, starting at 1:00 PM beginning with a final public viewing one hour prior to services. COMMITTAL: The interment for Elder Pontoo Jr., will take place at the Antioch Bible Way Church of Wagener, SC.
