As for me, my life has already been poured out as an offering to God. The time of my death is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. 2 Timothy 4:6-8
God in His infinite wisdom chose a beautiful Angel to add to his garden, Cubia Davis Caughman on Sunday, April 8, 2018, surrounded with family by her side.
A Time to Be Born:
Cubia Davis Caughman, the daughter of Milledge and Olia Drafts Davis was born on Friday, March 21, 1919, in Gilbert, South Carolina. Cubia was the youngest of ten children born to her parents.
A Time to Live:
She attended school in the Gray Land area in Gilbert, SC. She later attended a night school where she graduated and obtained her diploma. She joined Mount Olive Christian Methodist Episcopalian Church (CME) at an early age and continued to work faithfully as a Sunday School Superintendent, Stewardess, Senior Choir President, Vice President of The Senior Citizens, President of the local Missionary Society and Zone One Leader of the Charleston-Columbia District and the Mother of the Church. A faithful Christian Methodist Episcopalian, she travelled to the CME Annual Conferences each year, when she was able and always shared viable information she learned. The Missionary Society was dear to her heart; she continued to work with and teach new Presidents who served in position the responsibilities and duties of a Missionary. Cubia was employed with the Lexington School District 1 at Lexington Rosenwald School for over 30 years, as a cafeteria worker. She was a great cook; she taught her children and some grandchildren how to cook as well.
A Time to Love:
On September 1, 1937, Cubia married Johnny Wesley Caughman and to this union, five children were born. Cubia loved to read her bible, sing, work with crafts, flowers, and fish with her friends. They would leave early in the morning and stay until almost dark, sometimes not catching anything. She would often say they found it to be peaceful and a time to focus on the Lord, home, and children. Cubia loved all, especially family; they meant the world to her. She would say "love one another and treat each other with respect." There was a song she would sing "Ain't But Me One," we could not understand, she explained that out of the ten children of her parents she was the only one left. She left us at the age of ninety-nine (99), we now certainly know what she was singing about.. Cubia love to sing, especially the old songs that were called "note" songs like Some Where, In the fullness of time, I'll be at home, the Gate called Straight, and many more.
A Time to Grieve:
She was predeceased by her parents, husband Johnny Wesley Caughman, two sons Thomas Edward and Herbie David Caughman, all nine of her siblings, and two great-grandchildren Shantay Holman and Joseph Watson, Jr.
A Time to Mourn:
Cubia leaves to cherish her fond memories her loving children; one daughter Mineva (Rogers) Cook of Lexington, SC; two sons, John Lindsey (Denise) Caughman of Irmo, SC and Terrance Rex (Karen) Caughman of Lexington, SC; 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, five (5) great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; also a special cousin, Willie B. Taylor, along with many sorrowing friends who will miss her immensely.
