Reflections of Life

Mrs. Carolyn A. Green was born August 24, 1953, in Lexington, South Carolina to the late John M. Powell and Ester R. Powell. She departed this life on Thursday, May 15, 2025.

Carolyn was educated in the public schools of Lexington District 1. She attended both Rosenwald and Lexington High School.  She was a graduate of Lexington High School in the class of 1971. She was a Majorette for Lexington High School. She also participated in other extra-curricular activities at both schools. Carolyn attended Savannah State College and completed studies at Lexington Vocational School & Midlands Technical College in the Certified Nursing Assistant Program.

She was employed as an educator and childcare provider for Primary/Preschool aged kids ranging from toddlers to 3rd grade students. She retired from Saxe Gotha Presbyterian Child Development Center in Lexington, SC after caring, loving, and teaching students for 20+ years. She was a devoted educator and cherished her profession and the times she spent with the children. Many families and former students, whose lives she impacted, remained in contact with her many years after she retired.

Carolyn was baptized at an early age at Spring Hill A.M.E. Church, Gilbert, South Carolina; and later joined New Bethel A.M.E. Church where she was very active. She faithfully served many years on the Stewardess Board, Church Secretary, Pastors Aid Club, Gospel Choir, and a member of the Women's Missionary Group. She was an active participant in weekly bible studies and the prayer meetings at church. Carolyn was passionate and faithful in providing inspirational messages during the reading of the church announcements each Sunday.

In the community, Carolyn has worked with the NAACP and MLK committees often sharing one of her talents and gifts of writing poetically and speaking gracefully during various programs, meetings and banquets. She imparted her wisdom by connecting her words and voice eloquently to communicate the goodness and faithfulness of the Lord.

Carolyn often assisted as a care giver for her mom, Ester, sister-in-law, the late Mary Louise Stokes Clark, the late James Stokes and her late husband, Larry, during their illness. She regularly sat with her aunt Thelma, as a caregiver, relieving her cousin, Miriam. She never complained about what was required of her.  She simply praised God for the strength to be a caregiver.

Carolyn was a devoted wife to the late Larry Green, Sr. for over 40 years.  To this union two   sons were born. In the 40+ years, they shared many lovely memories traveling to family reunions and vacations. Years after the death of her husband, Larry, she found love again with Jerry Strother who was very special to her.

Carolyn leaves to cherish her loving memories her sons, Larry Green Jr. (Tara) of Lexington, South Carolina and Miguel (Valarie) Green of Chicago, Illinois; one sister Carmella Powell of Simpsonville, SC; grandchildren Larry Green, III of Lexington, South Carolina, Miguel Green, II and Avery Green of Chicago, Illinois; three  aunts Thelma Strother of Lexington, South Carolina, Costina Bobo, Honea Path, S.C. and Arlene Thomas, Cleveland, Ohio; two brothers -in- law, James O. Green, Sr., Willie David (Virgie) Green of Lexington, South Carolina; nephews David Green, Jr of Lexington, South Carolina, Erick Green of Irmo, South Carolina, Jamie Adams of Easley, S.C. and Wesley Adams of Irmo, South Carolina; a special cousin who was like a sister, Becky; and host of cousins, family, and friends.
