Mrs. Beatrice Kitchings, affectionately known as "Mama Bea", was born on October 19, 1921 to the late Dave and Rosa Salley Pearson. She was preceded in death by her brother and her two great-granddaughters.
Mrs. Kitchings loved the Lord; she was saved and baptized. She was a lifelong member of Saron Baptist Church; serving on the Senior Choir (where she held the office of President); Pastor Aide Circle, Kitchen Committee, and the Women's Ministry. She was also a Vacation Bible School Leader, faithful Sunday School Scholar, and a Deaconess for more than 60 years.
Beatrice married the love of her life, the late Phillip Kitchings, Sr., on September 13, 1936 and this union was blessed with six children. Momma Bea had a great love for her family and instilled that same love into the generations that followed.
Beatrice was an entrepreneur and tireless worker. She and her husband were owners of Kitchings Grocery which is fondly remembered by residents of the Wagener community. Mrs. Kitchings also worked for Rev. Benjamin, Pastor of First Baptist Church, Wagener, SC for six to ten years. Beatrice loved her community and could often be found helping others. She also loved Saron and worked tirelessly to improve the church. She passed that gift of community involvement and church service onto her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter, Rosa (James) Hall of Lanham, MD; son, Phillip (Annette) of Clifton, VA; daughter, Luellen Ellis of Capital Heights, MD; daughter, Dorothy (Ronnie) Salley of Wagener, SC; son, Randy (Dorcas) of Wagener, SC; and son, Anthony (Malinda) of Maple Heights, OH; 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 21 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, a host of other relatives and many, many friends.
