Obituary

Annie Bell Gunter-Johnson was born to the late Balam and Lillie Pell Gunter on March 30, 1922. She grew up in Wagener, SC, until the age of 23. In 1945, she relocated to Bridgeport, CT, where she met David Johnson, and from that union gave birth to a daughter and two sons. She attended the Bethel Bible Institute and graduated in 1967. She was employed as a domestic worker and later worked for Wonder Bread Bakery. She then went to the City of Bridgeport where she worked for the Board of Education until retiring in 1987. She was a member of Mt. Avery Baptist Church, Full Gospel Baptist Church, and Ebenezer Gospel Assembly. She joined and attended the Salvation Army until she returned to Wagener in November 1998. She became a member of Chalk Hill Baptist Church and later joined Saron Baptist Church until she was called home on January 23,2013. Annie Bell loved singing, playing the piano, and going to the senior center to play Bingo. She loved the Lord and adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She held a special place in her heart for Shemar (great-grandson), Kiki (great niece), and Vaughn (grandson). She was predeceased by her brothers: Floyd, David, Lone, Calvin, and Kelly; and sisters Dorotha, Eulah, and Lethella. She leaves behind daughter: Annie J. Lofton, Hamden CT.; sons: David D. Johnson (Loretta), West Haven, CT., and Christopher H. Johnson, Hamden, CT.; two sisters: Ruth Gunter of Bridgeport, CT., and Katie Singleton of Columbia, SC., seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews; including her caretaker and special nephew: Lone C. Gunter; and many friends with special recognition to Martha Coltrane of CT. We will indeed miss our mother, our grandmother, our great-grandmother, our sister, our aunt, our cousin, and our friend.
