Dr. Katrina D. Gary-Wills entered this world on February 25, 1979 in Lexington, SC. She was the youngest daughter of Vera S. Gary and the late Joseph H. Gary. She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Roxina Summers and Bloneva Davenport Gary; her beloved Aunt Cassandra ‘Faye’ Summers-Hatcher.
Katrina graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of Hospitality, Retail and Sports Management in August 2001. After graduation, she joined the Black Alumni Association and held office. October 2016, she received a Master’s Degree in Health Administration from Webster University. In August 2013, Katrina graduated with Distinction, Summa Cum Laude, from Capella University with a Doctor of Philosophy in Human Services Specialization in Health Care Administration.
After graduating from USC, she went to work at Blue Cross Blue Shield as an Account Manager. She taught at ECPI University as well as an online instructor. She continued to build her resume by accepting a job at the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) as a Quality Management Coordinator. In this position, she traveled inter and intra state speaking at seminars, conferences and healthcare facilities for the Bureau of Disease Control. She later accepted a position at Midlands Technical College as the Director of a federal funded grant program, BOOST, where she managed a multimillion-dollar budget.
Katrina was active within the church. She served on the Marriage Ministry as well as on the Young Women’s Auxiliary (YWA). She was well loved by friends and was known for planning and hosting elegant affairs; event planning was her passion.
She leaves to cherish her memories: A loving husband, Saladin Wills and one daughter Lauryn Chanel Wills of the home; two step-daughters, Victoria Wills and Kasmin Wills; mother, Vera Gary; four sisters, Charity Gary, Nicole Gary, Sabrina Cook and Kim Smith; one brother Douglas Blackwell; mother in law, Gloria Wills; father and mother in law, Mr. and Mrs. Victor Wills; nieces, Breanna Boozer, China Boozer, Alexis Gary, and Machayla Gary: a very special childhood friend, Johnya Bowman-Dowling; godson, Tyler Dowling and a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
